Am 6. Mai 2024 besuchten die Klassen 10.1 und 10.2 sowie der Grundkurs Englisch 11 das Gastspiel „Animal Farm“ im Volkstheater Rostock. Die Aufführung fand in der Originalsprache statt und wurde nur leicht adaptiert. Im gesamten Zuschauerraum herrschte während der neunzig Minuten eine absolute Stille und Aufmerksamkeit – von der wir Lehrkräfte so manches Mal in unserem Unterricht träumen. Während die meisten von uns begeistert waren, gab es auch so manch einen Kritiker unter uns. Eine (vielleicht nicht ganz) ernstgemeinte Schülerkritik kann man hier lesen:

« Animal farm » – a book by George Orwell published in 1949 as a criticism of Stalin and the Soviet Union, has been turned into a masterpiece of modern theatre by Paul Stebbings. We got to watch this spectacle on the stage of the Volkstheater on 6th of May: five British guys from the American Drama Group behaving like farm animals and starting a communist revolution under their leader, NAPOLEON the pig. The extraordinarily talented actors are able to imitate various animals as realistically as a one-year-old child could do it, without even changing their costumes, since there simply are none. A lot of effort also went into the stage set, which consists of one single old, rusty scaffolding that would never be approved by any German authority.

Overall, it’s a great fun for anti-communist guerilla fighters and all little children with ADHD –  speaking English is only a secondary requirement to watch this piece because the visual performance and animal-imitations really speak for themselves.
